Department of Economics of Agrarian Sector

The history of the department of agrarian economy began in 1959, when the faculty of agricultural economics was created at the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute. This department was renamed in 1959 as "Socialist Agricultural Economics", later the name of the department was changed to "Agricultural Economics", since 2001 "Agricultural Economy and Foreign Economic Relations", since 2009 "Agricultural Policy and the world economy ”department.

At present, the department is called "Economics of Agricultural sector."

The first head of the department was the candidate of economic sciences, associate professor Haji Hasanov, who was directly involved in its creation. Doctor, Professor, Corresponding Member of ANAS and the Russian (former All-Union) Academy of Agricultural Sciences Aydin Mammadov.

Since the beginning of the department’s activity, highly qualified personnel have been trained in the field of agricultural economics, as well as research work in the field of urgent problems of the agricultural economy, and important scientific and practical results have been obtained in this area. Later, the department was headed by associate professors Vahid Amrakhov, Anar Khatamov and Asli Gurbanova. Since 2018, the department is headed by Ramina Ramiz gizi Mustafayeva, Doctor of Philosophy in Economics, Associate Professor.


Department of Economics of Agrarian Sector

The Department of Agricultural Economics prepares specialists in economics in Azerbaijani, Russian and English at the undergraduate and graduate degrees.

From the 2009/2010 academic year to the 2017/2018 academic year, the department provides training in the world economy at the undergraduate and graduate degrees.

One of the achievements of the department was the establishment of the Special Talent Group for the first time at our university since the 2010/2011 academic year. Foreign and local staff were involved in teaching in these groups. Students studying in the Special Talents Group successfully represent our university in foreign scientific-practical conferences and seminars.

Our students who have completed their education in these groups are currently continuing their education in various countries around the world at the master's and doctoral levels. In recent years, the department has developed research in the field of "Substantiation of the economic mechanism for the development of innovative and export-oriented entrepreneurship in agriculture" (2013-2015), "Economic mechanism of modernization of production structure in agriculture and its justification" (2016-2018). At present, the department conducts research on "Economic mechanism of cooperation in the agricultural sector and its improvement" (2018-2020). The department pays special attention to the development of scientific and pedagogical activities of young teachers, for this purpose, round tables are organized on current issues of the agricultural sector, exchange of views.

In order to expand the university's international relations, the Department of Agricultural Economics has established bilateral relations with some world universities, student-teacher exchange, participation of professors and teachers in conferences, writing Erasmus + projects, organizing webinars, publishing scientific articles, research established relations with the following universities in order to share the results of their work.

Among the CIS countries are the National Agrarian University of Kazakhstan, the National Agrarian University of Kyrgyzstan, the State Technical Agrarian University of Belarus. Among the European universities, a preliminary agreement has been reached with Bulgaria's University of Economics (University of Economics-Varna) and Jaen University in Spain to join the 2021 Erasmus + project as a partner university.

The department of agricultural economics employs 30 people, including 25 professors and teachers, 5 laboratory technicians. The teaching staff consists of 10 doctors of philosophy, associate professors, 7 senior teachers and 8 assistants.
