ABOUT FACULTY

ABOUT FACULTYThe base for training economists in the agricultural sector arose in 1928 with the creation of the department of organization of agricultural production at the agricultural faculty of the Azerbaijan Polytechnic Institute. After the establishment of the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute in 1929, the Department of Agricultural Economics was opened at the Faculty of Agronomy. In 1937, the department was closed, and training in this area was transferred to the Azerbaijan Institute of National Economy.

However, the department of "Organization of socialist agricultural enterprises" was retained at the Institute. This department taught economics to students of all faculties of the institute.

In order to develop the agricultural economy in our country in 1959, the Faculty of Agricultural Economics was transferred from Azerbaijan Institute of National Economy to the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute and began training specialists in the specialty "Economics and Agricultural Development" at this institute.

The rapid development of agriculture in the republic after the war of 1941-1945 required improving the quality of training of agricultural economists, deepening their specialization. The Institute of National Economy could not provide this. Therefore, in 1959, the faculty of agricultural economics was transferred to the Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute.

The first dean of the Faculty was associate professor Mammad Afandiyev (1959-1965). He made a great contribution to the establishment and formation of the faculty. Later associate professors Nazim Farajov, Zahid Rzayev, Vagif Mammadov, Gafar Akbarov, prof. Aydin Mammadov, associate professors Maharram Huseynov, Natiq Cavadov, Telman Musayev, Zakir Ahmadov, Baylar Aliyev led of the Faculty, from 2018 till now associate professor Asaf Gasımov is dean of the Faculty.

In the first years of the faculty's activity, there were only 3 candidates of sciences among the teachers, so there was a serious need for scientific and pedagogical staff.

For this purpose, such measures as the creation of graduate school, the direction of faculty teachers at economic faculties and the organization of large agricultural enterprises of other universities were used. In the training of scientific and pedagogical staff prominent agrarian economists such as academicians of the Moscow Agricultural Academy named after K.A.Timiryazev S.G.Kolesnev, S.S.Sergeyev, professor of the Kharkiv Agricultural Institute L.M.Kletski, professors of Georgian Agricultural Inistitute I.L.Dzhashi, N.K.Lachkapiani, N.S. Yashvili, Q.M.Zhqenti have provided great help. Scientists of Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute M.M.Afandiyev, prof. A.I.Mammadov, prof. I.V.Ahmadov and others headed the relevant departments, and numerous PhD and doctoral dissertations were defended under their supervision.

With the help of these scientists, many highly qualified specialists have been trained at the faculty. During the development of the faculty, 4 doctors of economic sciences, professors, dozens of candidates of sciences, associate professors, most of whom are graduates Azerbaijan Agricultural Institute, were trained. In 1965 began, the training of specialists in "accounting" in agriculture.

At present Specialist training is underway, in Faculty of Agricultural Economics specializes in bachelor degree "Economics", "Finance", in master "Economics", "World Economy", "Organization of Insurance" and "Tax and Taxation", in PhD degree "Sectoral Economics" and "General Economics" .
